'Cause we're free . . .‘Cause We’re Free as the Rent We Pay Morning I woke up shivering next to the river. The campfire was almost out, and I could see my breath condensing before my eyes. Bottles and cigarette butts riddled the shore and a few of my friends lay sleeping in the dark and misty morning. I looked over at the empty cans of spray paint, wiped clear of our prints, and then up at the graffiti. “Down with fascists!”, our oppressive dictator in front of the outline of a tombstone, “One man’s terrorist is another man’s freedom fighter,” gas masks, and other Orwellian socio-political mockeries. &'Cause we're free . . .
